I could totally see him arranging and giving her moments of respite just like this.
One decision can change so much. Instead of telling Buffy that Spike is in love with her during Crush, Dawn tells her about a list. It leaves Buffy thinking about all of the ways that Spike could have used to kill them… but didn’t.
I was always amazed at how easy it would have been to dismantle so many of the prejudices that the Scoobies had regarding Spike, his motives, and methods. Nobody really tried, and logic was never their strong point (or empathy). If only...
A week after Chosen, Buffy thinks about unlikely heroes.

The poems are hauntingly beautiful, and the story is great. Loved it.
It’s almost a year and a half since Sunnydale fell into a crater. Now retired from slaying, Buffy’s been voluntold to go to Wesley Wyndham-Price’s memorial service, where she finds a few familiar enemies. Everything’s so surreal anyway, Buffy decides she might as well just give into it and see if lunch with Drusilla and Harmony might be one of the better things she does that year. The day keeps getting weirder, but the year might just be unsurpassable by the end of it.
Very good chapter, and the characters are spot on. Frustrating, funny, and just plain good.

I love imagining this future rather than whatever it was they did in the comics.
Unsure of what to do about her crumbling relationship or how to keep her sister safe, Buffy uses a crystal made by Willow to trigger a slayer dream. A slayer dream that warns her to be wary of wolves who hide their fur under the skin.

Okay, so maybe this still wouldn't have fixed her Ben is Glory problem, nor would it have saved her mom, or even herself, but damn if it wouldn't have been a much better way to make a clean break from Riley, and maybe, just maybe, be more open to the idea that Spike is more than a villain unable to do evil for the moment.
Healing is a process. It doesn't just happen one day. It happens in steps and phases. Spike goes through those steps and phases, trying to put his life back together after he's injured in season two.
This is a very good description of what might have been going through Spike's mind during that time. Great characterization.

Spike comes to town for the first time during Harsh Light of Day, and the first time Buffy sees him is sunbathing on campus adorned with the Gem of Amara. She has no idea he's a vampire, and he has no clue she's the slayer. With nothing holding them back, how do these two strangers come together?
