Excellent start to a very interesting story. I love Spike's reaction his mom coming back, and how torn up he is over not being the William she remembers. Great characterization.
Read this for the first time when it was on EF. Still such a comfort read. Happy to see it and others I haven't read on here. Anne is a delight.

Another excellent chapter. I really love the detail of Spike clicking the pen. I've used that in fics, too. He is such a fidgety guy. Great characterization, as always.

Another excellent chapter! I love so many things about it. It would take almost as space as the chapter itself if I went into it all, so I'll just list a few: I love Spike cooking. With how much he clearly loves human food, I find it harder to believe that he DOESN'T know how to cook (in my own stuff, he snuck into the kitchen as a child and young man and charmed the family's cook into teaching him some of her recipes, and then became the apprentice of a chef during the 1980s for something interesting to do). I also love the shifting of his speech patterns and Buffy's changing perceptions of him as she learns some of what he keeps below the surface.
Excellent chapter. I loved Spike's response to the bullshit Angel pulled on Buffy. I also loved that he spent time with the cook as a child. That's one of my personal head canons, too.

Also, I love Spike quoting scripture from memory. So many forget that part of him having his humanity intact is that he was raised as a Christian.Excellent chapter. I did worry a bit about Xander's characterization, since he often gets saddled with things that Willow actually did (constantly insisting that Anya needed to act like a human was a Willow thing, not Xander, but I'm always seeing him accused of that. Or of never having Anya's back when he argued in Troll that she could watch the shop just fine on her own and didn't need Willow as a babysitter.), but he was in character, and it included his habit of doing/saying something stupid, then apologizing once he'd time (and sometimes a nudge) to think about it and realize he was in the wrong. I love that that got included.
I love Anne. She's a lovely character who manages to be a fierce mama bear while still being polite, charming, and kind.

😳 So Faith still accidentally kills Finch (Ithink that's his name) !! I hope Spike being here for Buffy helps her realize she needs to help Faith not push her away. 😔 Poor Faith, she got a raw deal over that incident.
